United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) launches strategic plan to empower and promote equality among persons with disabilities
NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 6… The United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) launched their 2025-2029 strategic plan while celebrating a major milestone of 36 years of transformative advocacy for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Kenya.
The strategic plan reaffirms UDPK’s commitment to disability-inclusive governance and economic empowerment and aim for policies that promote non-discrimination, equal participation fostering inclusion, empowerment and equal opportunities for Persons with disabilities nationwide.
According to Sally Nduta, Chief Executive Officer, United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) said that the strategic plan 2025-2029 provides a roadmap to guide the country to comply with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the African Union Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“The plan will ensure that persons with disabilities in Kenya overcome challenges such as limited access to essential services as well as under-representation in decision-making spaces,” said Ms Nduta.
In addition, UDPK has influenced policies promoting equality and accessibility for all through key legislation with like persons with disabilities act 2023 and 2024.
“When we plan for inclusion, we pave way for a society where every voice is heard and every potential is realized”.
Furthermore, Nduta noted that the strategic plan outlines measures to ensure that persons with disabilities achieve progress toward attaining the highest attainable standards of health outcomes.
“The 2025-2029 strategic plan is designed to address the stigma faced by persons with disability in society through advocacy campaigns that promote inclusive communities”, stated Eric Ngondi, Chairperson UDPK.
Mr. Ngondi reiterated that the strategic plan will promote the integration of disability-inclusive practices into climate actions, disaster preparedness, and humanitarian response.
