Nairobi Hospital reasserts commitment to constructive dialogue with insurance partners while prioritizing timely and quality healthcare for patients

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 16 – The Nairobi Hospital has reassured the general public that the healthcare facility remains committed to its mandate of offering the highest quality healthcare to all patients.

While addressing the media at the Hospital led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Felix Osano noted that importance of the Premier health facility cannot be overstated and its correct mandate to offer comprehensive, optimal care to all patients.

“We are aware that the recent communications on media platforms by some medical insurers on service suspension at The Nairobi Hospital have created anxiety among all stakeholders, doctors and patients alike”.

The Hospital highlighted that in view of the prevailing economic circumstances where the costs of both imported and local medical products have risen, It marginally reviewed upwards the prices of certain medical products and services by an average of 5%.

“This was done after a comprehensive analysis of rising costs in pharmaceuticals, equipment and other essential supplies, benchmarked against peer institutions, Even with these adjustments, our tariffs remained competitive within the market”.

They noted that there has been continued dialogue with stakeholders, including insurance for the sustainability of the hospital.

“Despite having engaged key insurance partners on the rationale and context for the adjustments, some insurance partners reacted to the implementation by suspending services at The Nairobi Hospital, as advised in advisories issued to their clients on August 8, 2025.”

In response, the Senior Management Team of The Nairobi Hospital met with senior representatives of leading medical insurance providers including Old Mutual, CIC, Britam Health, AAR, First Assurance, Heritage, Kenindia, Kenya Alliance, G.A, Madison, Fidelity and Minet.

The open and constructive discussions addressed concerns regarding the proposed pricing structure, ensuring alignment with our shared commitment to patient-centered care.

Consequently, Mutual goodwill prevailed in a constructive dialogue and the hospital rescinded the tariff adjustments to allow for further dialogue patients will continue accessing services at the previous rates.

“The hospital wishes to reassure all its patients that the rates remain as were prior to adjustments. We are ready to work with our insurance partners to ensure flawless service to our patients”, they added.

The Nairobi Hospital has assured the public that the health facility continues to provide care to all patients at the rates and remain committed to delivering the highest standard of care.

Further, for patients covered by medical insurance, access to services remains subject to approval from their respective providers as they encouraged patients to contact their insurers directly to confirm coverage and seek clarification on any disruption they are experiencing to their care.

They added that the hospital is committed to constructive dialogue with its insurance partners while prioritizing patients and ensuring that they receive timely and quality care.
