NAIROBI, Kenya, May 9 – The large scale medical camp organized by DeckerMed Africa Trust and Lavington Rotary Club provided essential healthcare services to hundreds of women in Kibera’s D.O Health Centre the initiative targeted neglected women’s health conditions that often go untreated in underserved communities.
Comprehensive camp offered free screenings and treatments for cervical and breast cancer, obstetric fistula, pelvic organ prolapse, and endometriosis Additional services included testing for diabetes, hypertension, malaria and HIV along with general medical consultations and medication distribution with more than 240 women received care during the one-day event.
Specialized cancer screenings were conducted through the Betty Lloyd Clinic, established in memory of a cancer advocate the clinic provided critical early detection services for breast and cervical cancer, conditions that disproportionately affect women in low-income areas due to limited access to preventive care.
In addition the medical camp’s success relied on coordinated support from multiple partners. Malibu Pharmacy Ltd donated medications and medical supplies, while Africa Cancer Foundation contributed technical expertise for cancer screenings.

Essilor Luxottica provided vision care services, and Milele FM served as media partner to raise awareness. Local healthcare workers from Kibera D.O Health Centre facilitated patient flow and service delivery.
Community response highlighted urgent need for such initiatives many attendees reported having delayed medical care due to financial constraints or lack of accessible services the camp’s organized structure allowed for efficient screenings, diagnoses and immediate treatment where possible follow-up referrals were arranged for cases requiring further medical attention.

Furthermore, the event demonstrated how coordinated efforts between healthcare organizations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders can deliver impactful health interventions Organizers emphasized that while the camp addressed immediate needs, sustained investment in women’s health infrastructure remains critical for long-term improvement in underserved areas.
DeckerMed Africa Trust and Lavington Rotary Club plan to expand similar initiatives to other marginalized communities using lessons learned from the Kibera camp to enhance future healthcare outreach programs the model proves that targeted, collaborative interventions can effectively bridge gaps in women’s healthcare access when designed with community needs in mind.
