Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemns withdrawal of Chief Justice Martha Koome security details
NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 24…The Law society of Kenya led by President Faith Odhiambo has condemned withdrawal of security detail attached to Chief Justice Martha Koome office saying that the move is unacceptable and indicates grave systematic and administrative lapses within the National Police Service.
LSK noted that National Police Service is established as part of the organs of National security which must serve all people and institutions equally and without prejudice.
“The complaint raised by the Chief Justice indicates an insufferable failure on the part of the National Police service which must be rectified promptly and action taken to prevent any reoccurrence”, said Faith Odhiambo, President Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
In addition LSK reminded Inspector General of Police that primary function of the police is to provide security adding that any operations or administrative processes that may affect security of Chief Justice must be premeditated, well-structured and communicated to ensure smooth transition where any is required.
“With the weakening of the Judiciary police Unit complained of by the Chief Justice, is an affront to the administration of justice and rule of law as we know all”, added Ms Odhiambo.
Furthermore, LSK highlighted that the unfortunate attacks on Judges and Magistrates in recent years adding that the combination of errors and omissions on the part of the police appears insidious and deliberate and the trend must be nipped in its bud.
“We call on Inspector General of Police and National Police Service to take immediate action to address all issues relating to security of the Judiciary”, stated LSK President.
“The law Society of Kenya asserts its strong defence of the Judiciary against all elements that threaten Judicial independence, whether internal or external”.
