Nairobi Hospital hosts Magical Kenya medical tourism forum to deliberate and drive medical tourism growth in the country

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 27 – The forum organized by Magical Kenya and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) provided a platform for discussions of growth opportunities, challenges and the role of medical professionals, hospitals and travel partners in enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in the global medical tourism sector.

Key stakeholders including hospitals, medical specialists, hospitality and travel partners as well as government and county representatives for the Magical Kenya Medical Tourism Forum convene at Nairobi Hospital to deliberate.

Director of Medical Services and Research at The Nairobi Hospital, Mr Samuel Odede emphasized on Kenya’s potential to attract international patients seeking high-quality healthcare services.

“Kenya is proud of world-class medical facilities, skilled specialists, and advanced healthcare infrastructure, by fostering collaboration between the tourism and healthcare sectors, we can develop a thriving medical tourism industry that not only boosts our economy but also enhances healthcare services for both local and International patients “, said Mr Odede.

According to the Ministry of Health report shows that Kenya attracts an average of 5,000 medical tourists annually primarily from neighboring countries.

Subsequently, while the growth have largely been organic stakeholders are now seeking to structure and formalize medical tourism efforts for sustainable expansion.

Ken Research a global market research firm states that global medical tourism market is expected to surpass Sh5.2 trillion ($40 billion) by 2025 driven by factors such as an ageing global population, increasing healthcare disparities and advancements in medical technology.

In addition The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) outlined its Medical Tourism Strategy, highlighting key focus areas and proposed initiatives to enhance Kenya’s visibility as a trusted healthcare destination.

Furthermore, Nairobi Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to advancing medical excellence and providing top-tier healthcare services to international patients.

Government officials, medical experts and industry leaders shared insights, recommendations and actionable next steps, emphasizing the need for enhanced marketing efforts, improved regulatory frameworks and strategic partnerships to drive medical tourism growth in Kenya.
