Employees urged to take personal responsibility for their mental health to maintain a healthier and more effective work environment.
NAIROBI, Kenya, June 25 – The State Department For Forestry in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development hosted a mental health awareness creation sensitization training at the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) headquarters in Karura.
While officially opening the event Director Agroforestry Dr. Jesse O. Owino stressed the need to promote mental wellness and foster a supportive work culture.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to prioritize employees, enhance motivation and recognize mental health as a key driver of sustainable productivity in the public sector.
Training encouraged open conversations about mental health and emphasized the need to address workplace stress aiming to equip staff with practical tools for managing anxiety and building resilience while also highlighting the strong connection between mental well-being and individual performance.
Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development facilitators facilitated sessions that included awareness creation, peer interaction and access to counselling services.
“These interventions were designed to help employees better understand their roles, manage job related pressures and embrace mental health as part of professional growth”.
Additionally, during the training participants were urged to take personal responsibility for their mental health to maintain a healthier, more effective work environment.
“By investing in the psychological well-being of public servants, the government aims to build a resilient, engaged and productive workforce”.
Initiatives like this bridge the gap between policy and everyday practice, creating a culture where mental health is valued as essential to both individual success and national development.
