Nairobi Hospital dismisses Daily Nation article ‘Doctors Sound Alarm Over Hospital’s Deepening Crisis’

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 18 – The Nairobi Hospital management has refuted claims made in a Daily Nation article titled “Doctors Sound Alarm Over Nairobi Hospital’s Deepening Crisis,” and the subsequent public commentary it has generated.

In a statement issued on June 17 2026 by the Board of Management, the premier healthcare facility stated that “Public scrutiny of institutions is both legitimate and necessary, the article contains inaccuracies and mischaracterisations that create a misleading impression of the Hospital’s governance, operations and overall state of affairs”.

“It is important to clarify that the concerns referenced in the article arise from a requisition submitted by an individual member of the Admitting Staff Association (ASA)”.

The statement further reads “These views do not represent the position of The Nairobi Hospital staff, nor do they constitute the position of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC)”.

“Portraying these concerns as having been raised by “doctors” generally is therefore inaccurate and fails to acknowledge this important distinction”.

Futher, the board noted that Such reporting elevates the views contained in an individual requisition into a broader clinical position that has neither been adopted by the MAC nor expressed by the Hospital’s medical staff.

“The Nairobi Hospital has well-established governance structures and processes through which concerns may be raised, deliberated upon and addressed appropriately”, reads the statement.

Additionally, they stressed that it is inaccurate to characterise an individual governance matter as evidence of an institutional crisis.

The Hospital remains fully operational and steadfast in its commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. Clinical services continue uninterrupted, and ongoing governance-strengthening initiatives remain firmly on course in line with the Hospital’s strategic objectives and commitment to excellence.

For more than seventy years, The Nairobi Hospital has earned and maintained the trust of patients, families, healthcare professionals, partners and the wider public.

“We remain committed to safeguarding that trust through responsible leadership, sound governance and the highest standards of clinical care”.

“Accordingly, we reject attempts to conflate individual views with institutional positions or to portray ongoing governance processes as evidence of institutional instability”.

They noted that Public confidence in healthcare institutions is of paramount importance and should be informed by reporting that is accurate, balanced and appropriately contextualised.

The Hospital added that it will continue to protect its reputation and the interests of its patients, staff and stakeholders against false, misleading or defamatory statements Where necessary.

“The Nairobi Hospital reserves all its rights, including the right to pursue appropriate legal remedies against any person or entity whose actions cause reputational or commercial harm to the institution”.
