Youth Group Demands House Action Against MP Mwago Over Alleged Presidential Slur

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 17 – Youth political movement Vijana na Ruto has issued a stern call for accountability, loyalty, and political discipline, demanding parliamentary intervention over insulting remarks allegedly directed at President William Ruto by Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago.

​While addressing the media in Nairobi they said In a formal statement following a political engagement in Nakuru, the group expressed deep concern over reports attributing derogatory terms to the lawmaker when referencing the Head of State.

The group emphasized that while legitimate policy criticism remains a protected political right, personal insults directed at the presidency cross the line into disrespecting national institutions.​

Demands for Parliamentary Discipline​ To address the incident,

Vijana na Ruto urged National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to initiate formal proceedings within the House.

The youth movement outlined three primary requests:

● Official Clarification: Hon. Mwago should be granted the opportunity to state on the record whether the statements attributed to him are accurate.

● ​Public Apology: Should the remarks be verified, the Starehe legislator must issue an unreserved public apology to both the President and the nation before being allowed back onto the floor of the House.

● ​Maintenance of Decorum: The Speaker’s office should handle the matter as a breach of parliamentary decorum to safeguard the dignity of the institution.​

The organization noted that failing to address such conduct sets a dangerous precedent that erodes public respect for the highest office in the country.

​Rallying the Youth Behind the Executive Agenda​Beyond addressing the parliamentary incident, they directed a message toward the country’s youth, urging them to stay organized and back the President’s economic development agenda.

The statement called on young citizens to hold all elected officials accountable regardless of party affiliation, reject political opportunism, and reject leaders who abandon prior political alignments for convenience.​

Reaffirming its position, Vijana na Ruto concluded that respect for national institutions and loyalty within political ranks remain non-negotiable principles for the movement moving forward.
