Kerry and Concern Worldwide Drive Sustainable Nutrition and Resilience in Kenya’s Arid Lands
TANA RIVER, Kenya, Dec 2 – In the arid landscape of Tana River County a powerful and practical partnership is sowing the seeds of change, where the combined strengths of global nutrition leader Kerry and the humanitarian organization Concern Worldwide are yielding tangible results for vulnerable communities.
The joint ‘ALIVE’ programme is actively empowering smallholder farming communities in Tana River County, fundamentally transforming challenges of climate vulnerability and chronic food insecurity into tangible opportunities for sustainable growth and economic independence.
For countless families in rural Kenya, the reliance on small-scale farming is a daily gamble a precarious balancing act against increasingly severe climate shocks, chronic limited access to essential resources like improved seeds and reliable water and unpredictable, often exploitative, market prices, these factors directly impact the availability of food and the nutritional health of families, particularly women and children.
The four-year ALIVE programme was established to address these realities head-on the initiative focuses on providing farmers with essential support, including training in climate-smart agricultural practices, improving their access to quality farm inputs and establishing stronger links to reliable markets.
Additionally, the holistic approach is set to improve the food and nutrition security for an estimated 6,000 people, with a deliberate emphasis on empowering women, who are crucial to the well-being of their households and communities.
