Kipkaren Dam Water Project to resume following successful procurement and signing of a new contractor

NANDI, Kenya, Jan 22 – North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA) as the host and beneficiary agency joined a high-level joint inspection of the Kipkaren Dam Water Project in collaboration with the Government Delivery Services, Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRVWWDA), Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) and the County Governments of Nandi and Uasin Gishu.

The inspection marks a critical milestone ahead of the resumption of construction works following the successful procurement and signing of a new contractor.

NRVWWDA as the beneficiary agency will directly oversee the long-term operational impact of the project, which is poised to significantly strengthen water security, climate resilience, and socio-economic development across the North Rift region.

Kipkaren Dam is a flagship multi-purpose investment designed to sustainably serve growing urban and rural populations in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.

Beyond reliable domestic water supply, the project will support agricultural productivity, affordable housing, and industrial growth, while enhancing resilience to climate variability.

The Chief Executive Officer of NRVWWDA Douglas Murei during the inspection emphasized that the success of the project will depend not only on engineering excellence, but on strong and sustained collaboration among all stakeholders.

“As the host and beneficiary agency, NRVWWDA stands to benefit immensely from the successful completion of the Kipkaren Dam Project. However, this success will only be realized through close coordination, shared ownership, and unwavering commitment from all partners involved—national agencies, county governments, financiers, and the contractor”, said Murei.

The inspection provided an opportunity for stakeholders to jointly assess the current status of the works, align on implementation priorities, and reaffirm their commitment to timely delivery in line with approved plans.

Once completed, the project will deliver up to 24 million litres of treated water per day, with future expansion capacity, benefiting hundreds of thousands of residents and reinforcing Eldoret’s water supply system.

For NRVWWDA, the project represents a transformational investment that will enhance regional water infrastructure and service delivery for decades to come.

NRVWWDA reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with CRVWWDA as the implementing agency, LVNWWDA as the Engineer, and all other stakeholders to ensure the Kipkaren Dam Water Project is completed efficiently, transparently, and to the highest standards for the benefit of the people of the North Rift.
