Djibouti’s Mahmoud Youssouf wins AUC chairmanship seat
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Feb 15…Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud Youssouf has been declared winner after a highly contested election in Ethiopia, Youssouf takes over from Moussa Faki who has held the position for 8 years.
Mahmoud Youssouf gained 33 votes in the seventh round, defeating Kenya’s Raila Odinga after at least 4 rounds.
On the other hand Angola’s President JoĂŁo Lourenço has been elected African Union Chairperson for the year 2025 taking over from Mauritania’s Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.
Algerian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Selma Haddadi has been elected as the new AUC Deputy Chairperson after defeating candidates from Morocco and Egypt.
