JKUAT Closed Indefinitely, Students given until 4.00 p.m Sunday 2nd November 2025 to vacate the University

KIAMBU, Kenya, Nov 1 – Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has announced immediate indefinite closure of the institution following a prolonged lecturers’ strike.

In a notice issued on Saturday 1st November 2025 through the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, Robert Kinyua the higher learning institution noted that due to the ongoing industrial action by members of staff under the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) which has adversely affected the normal operations of academic programmes.

“A Special meeting of Senate held on Thursday, 30th October 2025 at 12:00 noon resolved that the University temporarily suspends academic activities with immediate effect until further notice”, reads the statement.

Consequently all students have been ordered to clear from the University by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, 2nd November 2025.

Additionally, the directive does not affect the Medical students who are on clinical rotations, JKUAT TVET Institute students, Mombasa Campus students, SODEL students, JKUAT/KESRA students, Nakuru Campus students and Postgraduate students who are conducting research.

“The University management regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates your understanding and cooperation during this period”.

Further the notice states that communication on resumption of academic activities will be issued in due course through the University’s official channels.
