StudyPerth, WA Institutions Launch New Community Library at Kibera’s Ayany Comprehensive School

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 30 – In a significant boost to local education, StudyPerth has joined forces with a consortium of Western Australian academic giants including Murdoch University, The University of Western Australia and their respective colleges alongside Campus Perth and Allianz to launch a transformative community library at Ayany Primary School in Kibera.

The collaborative initiative aims to bridge the educational divide by providing students in one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements with high-quality reading materials, modern digital tools, and a secure environment conducive to learning and personal growth.

Kibera, home to an estimated one million people is Africa’s largest informal settlement and yet it is a community rich in resilience and potential, the new library initiative will deliver curriculum-aligned books and learning resources prioritising upper-primary and junior secondary learners while supporting local educators with literacy and study-support activities.

The launch aligns with 60 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Kenya, a milestone celebrated in Nairobi, Canberra and across diaspora communities and underpinned by growing cooperation in education, innovation and people-to-people ties.

“This initiative reflects Murdoch University’s founding belief that education should be available to anyone with the ability and the aspiration,” said Conor Murphy, Regional Manager (Africa) at Murdoch University.

“We are proud to support children in Kibera with practical tools to learn and thrive and to do so in partnership with our Western Australian and Kenyan colleagues”, He added.
