Carrefour Expands East African Footprint with Major Entry into Ethiopian Market

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Jan 7 – Carrefour has officially entered into a strategic franchise and supply partnership with Queens Supermarket PLC, a subsidiary of the Midroc Investment Group, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of East Africa’s retail landscape.

The collaboration aims to introduce Carrefour’s globally recognized banners, operational expertise and diverse product range to the Ethiopian market, leveraging Midroc’s deep local roots to deliver a world-class shopping experience.

Through this strategic alliance, Carrefour will provide comprehensive technical and operational support to the Midroc teams, facilitating the full-scale transformation of their existing store network into Carrefour-branded outlets.

The first stores will be rebranded by first half of 2026, the new agreement illustrates the strength and dynamism of the franchise model championed by the Carrefour Group and marks the achievement of our objective to expand in 10 new countries under franchise as part of our Carrefour 2026 strategic plan.

Mr. Lasfargues added that the launch in Ethiopia is another milestone in the execution of our international franchise expansion strategy, which already saw pass the 3,000 franchised store mark in October 2025.
