IQSK unveils two landmark publications to shape and support construction and built environment sector in Kenya
NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 – The 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK) took place on 30th May 2025 at Panari Hotel, Nairobi as they convened to reflect on collective progress and chart the course of the future.
IQSK President, QS Mutinda Mutuku was thrilled on membership growth where in the last year IQSK has experienced notable growth from 2,422 in May 2024 to 2,674 as at 30th April 2025 representing a 10.41 percent increase over the past 12 months.
“This growth is not just about numbers ,it is a reflection on the continued trust in our institute and the value people see in being part of our mission, more members mean more voices, more ideas and more energy to move us foward”, said QS Mutuku.
During the AGM meeting IQSK unveiled two landmark publications that are set to significantly shape and support the construction and built environment sector in Kenya.
The 2025/2026 Construction Costs Handbook, a comprehensive resource offering detailed and updated information on the variety and prices of construction materials across the country.
“This handbook is an essential tool for quantity surveyors ,construction professionals and anyone undertaking building projects enabling realistic budgeting and cost planning based on reliable, market informed data “.
Principal Secretary, State Department of Public works Mr Joel Arumonyang in his speech delivered in absentia commended IQSK and recognized that quantity surveyors play a crucial role in delivering value, accountability and sustainability in the construction sector.
“We remain firmly committed to empowering quantity surveyors both with government and in the private sector, this commitment is reflected in our ongoing support for professional development regulatory reforms and resource development “, stated the PS speech.
“The successful development of the construction costs handbook 2025/2026 will improve transparency, help resolve cost-related disputes and enhance public trust in all construction projects “, he added.
Furthermore, IQSK launched Quantity Surveying Standards Practices and Procedure (SPP) a transformative publication designed to modenize and professionalise Quantity Surveying field by integrating International best practices and emerging technologies.
“The SPP aims to standardize training redefine methodologies, promote sustainability and align Kenya’s construction industry with global trends, thereby reinforcing quality, safety and innovation across engineering disciplines”.
The PS noted that the state department for public works will continue to work hand in hand with IQSK to support the adoption of digital tools and technologies like Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Enhance training and mentorship progress for young professionals and strengthen policy frameworks that support excellence in cost management and Quantity Surveying.
“I confirm the state department commitment to partnering with IQSK in driving innovations, professional growth and integrity in Kenya’s built environment, together we are not only building infrastructure, we are building confidence, competence and a legal of accountability “.
