Karura Community Sacco (KCS) unveils scholarship program to empower youth through education

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 1…Karura Community Sacco (KCS) at its 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) announced the launch of Sacco’s scholarship program to empower young people, give them opportunities noting that through education every child in Kenya gets an equal opportunity.

The Sacco CEO Gitonga Kigo noted that it was a special momentous day for the Sacco as they have been able to launch the program saying that its a way of giving back to the community by educating a number of students.

“As a Sacco, we have been supporting students to educate them, But today we’ve decided that we want to formalize this and we were able to launch our scholarship program, we believe in education, we believe in empowering, our young people, giving them opportunities through education”, said Mr. Gitonga.

KCS Sacco started from a small community called Karura but over the years the Sacco has grown to be a global SACCO where the Sacco has membership across the country and around the globe.

The Sacco reiterated on empowering young people financially working on various products that suits them to be rolled along, speaking during the meeting the CEO added that they have rolled out KCS wallet account that allows its members to hold money up to the time they need.

“As we offer our services, we believe and know very well, that Gen Z’s are taken by tech and they want to get all the services online and as a sacco, we’ve made sure that we have leveraged on technology at the comfort of your phone use of USSD and web browser”.

Subsequently, the Sacco have been ranked as one of the fastest growing saccos for the last three years consecutively in terms of its growth and in technology adoption.

Furthermore, KCS notes that for the last three or four, there have been Programs to take skilled youth to diaspora countries, like Middle East, United Kingdom and Canada with 80 teachers set to be taken to USA by August 2025 on its program.

“This is in partnership with companies that are already on our side, we have scanned them already on our side. We know their track record and so on so we continuously add value because unlike traditional sacco where the only service members get was just savings and credit”. Stated mr Gitonga.

“As a sacco we go a step higher and say apart from saving and credit platform, we want to create opportunities through business advisory and Investments and also to do project management”.
