Liberty Kenya Commits to UN Global Compact to Bolster Ethical Standards and Sustainability
NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 23 – Liberty Kenya has formally aligned with the United Nations Global Compact, the premier global platform for corporate sustainability, Marking a significant step in strengthening the integration of responsible business practices across its operations.
The partnership was officially inaugurated during a ceremonial presentation at Liberty’s corporate headquarters, serving as a powerful testament to the group’s pledge to harmonize its internal policies with the Ten Principles of the initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
By integrating these benchmarks into their daily operations, Liberty Kenya is reinforcing its accountability across the critical pillars of human rights, fair labour practices, environmental stewardship and robust anti-corruption measures.
Liberty Kenya by Joining the initiative commits to embedding these universal principles into its business culture, governance, and decision-making processes and to advancing transparency and accountability through ongoing reporting and engagement.
“At Liberty, we exist to make our customers’ financial freedom possible, but we recognize that true freedom relies on a sustainable and ethical society. Joining the UN Global Compact represents a deliberate pivot in our strategy”, said Kieran Godden, Liberty Kenya Group CEO.
“We are moving beyond the traditional view of CSR as merely ‘giving back’ to a more robust approach focused on ‘acting right’ across every level of our business,” Godden added.
As part of this new strategic direction, the firm will focus its efforts on four key pillars designed to embed sustainability into the core of the business which includes;
Governance Initiatives: Strengthening frameworks to ensure unimpeachable integrity across all operations.
Reporting: Adopting rigorous standards to measure and disclose non-financial impact transparently.
Industry Partnerships: Leveraging collaborations to address systemic challenges that no single organization can solve alone.
Capacity Building: Investing in training to ensure that staff and agents are equipped to act as champions of ethical business.
Global Compact Network Kenya, the country network of the United Nations Global Compact and host of the Secretariat of the Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya, welcomed Liberty Kenya’s participation.
Judy Njino, Executive Director, Global Compact Network Kenya noted that Liberty’s decision to join the United Nations Global Compact reflects a clear recognition of the role the financial services sector plays in shaping resilient, inclusive, and trusted economies.
“By committing to the Ten Principles, Liberty is reinforcing the understanding that strong governance, ethical conduct, and long-term business performance go hand in hand”, said Njino.
“We forward to working closely with Liberty to build capacity, strengthen transparency, and contribute to collective action that advances responsible business practices in Kenya and the region”.
”As a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, Liberty Kenya will submit an annual Communication on Progress, a public disclosure outlining its efforts to implement the Ten Principles and contribute to broader societal goals”.
