The 4th Regional Research Conference on taking stock of land reform progress in Kenya kicks off

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 21 – The 3-day conference held at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, brings together stakeholders from the Government, Academia, civil society, development partners, and private sector to deliberate on Land Reforms, reflection and collaboration in Kenya’s land sector.

National Land Commission (NLC) Commissioner Esther Mathenge while addressing emphasized commission recognises critical role land reforms play in shaping Kenya’s future land governance.

“Commission strategic objectives are grounded in promoting sustainable development through evidence based research and policy engagement on land and natural resources use, Kenya has mad a significant strides in land reform especially following the enactment of the National land policy and the 2010 Constitution which introduced institutions like NLC and the Environment and land Court (ELC)”, said Ms. Mathenge.

Chief Executive Officer, Kabale Tache arero of National land Commission acknowledged stakeholders and partners on the unwavering support.

“It’s a great pleasure to see dedicated researchers, academia, civil societies and land practitioners gathered to explore solutions and share experiences on land reforms “, stated Kabale.

She further acknowledged critical role of partners including Ministry of lands, FAO, National Research Fund, University of Nairobi and others.

The CEO noted that the 2025 conference aims to take stock of NLC’s achievements confront persistent and emerging challenges and develop practical policy recommendations.

“Let us use this platform to foster partnerships and reaffirm our commitment to inclusive and just land governance “.

In addition the conference is structured to encourage interdisciplinary discussion, knowledge exchange and policy engagement to shape the next phase of Kenya’s land reform.

Furthermore, the land use planning, reaserch and counties committee of NLC reassert commitment to justice, equaty and sustainable development in the land sector.

“The National Land Commission (NLC) reaffirms the insights from this forum will directly inform future strategies and reinforce Kenya’s commitment to equitable land governance”.
