Connected Africa Summit (CAS) 2025 kicks off, calls for Artificial Intelligence (AI) leverage in shaping Africa’s future digital landscape

KWALE, Kenya, May 27 – The 14th Annual Connected Africa Summit (CAS) 2025 organized by ICT Authority (ICTA) in collaboration with various partners has officially kicked off in Diani, Kwale County.

Themed, “The Digital Journey: Vision to Reality,” CAS 2025 has attracted delegates from over 22 African countries.

Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau while opening the summit emphasized the significance of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of Africa’s digital landscape.

CS Kabogo in his address said Africa needs to co-create, co-innovate and co-invest to have a competitive edge in the digital space and by leveraging AI and other emerging technologies, Africa will make real gains.

Principal Secretary Broadcasting and Telecommunications Mr. Stephen Isaboke noted that the government is striving at creating robust and advanced broadcasting and telecommunications network.

Isaboke indicated that leveraging emerging technologies such as AI will propel Africa to a great industrial revolution.

“Digital connectivity is important to create a digital economy, the next frontier will entail governments and other sectors applying AI in their operations for optimal efficiency”, said PS Isaboke.

In addition ICT and the Digital Economy Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui appreciated support by various partners and recognised the milestones achieved owing to previous Connected Summits.

Tanui highlighted various projects rolled out by the government aimed at enhancing digital transformation in the country.

He further pointed out yesterday’s launch of NG-CDF Mvita Jitume Digital Hub, further noting that the government is targeting to launch 1,450 similar hubs for enhanced digital skilling countrywide.

Key areas of focus in the Summit are; Cross border collaborations and regional integration, Data and cloud infrastructure, Cybersecurity and data protection, Investment, Innovation and Startup ecosystems among others.
